Governmental Competition and the Enfeebling of the City
When municipalities in the same region compete with each other, public good suffers.

Why would a public school district oppose affordable housing? It has to do with the ways in which suburbs are able to draw the benefits of being located near a city without having to spend their tax money to support the larger community.
Density means that social services are much more efficient to provide. As wealth returns to denser areas and most of the poor move to suburban areas we’ll need to re-think the models we’ve developed for caring for these folks.
